The Bell Tower of St. John the Evangelist

The Romanesque-style bell tower was erected in the second half of the 12th c. next to the church at the end of the southern wall, close to the sanctuary. It is very similar to the tower of the neighbouring Monastery of St. Andrew (Cro. Sv. Andrija), constructed at the same time. Rab is well-known fr its four bell towers, this one next to the ruins of the Church of St. John the Evangelist (Cro. Sv. Ivan Evenđelista) being the last one in a row from the top of the peninsula with the old town centre. All the towers are built in the Romanesque style except for the one of the Church of St. Justine (the third one in a row) that was built in the Baroque style. It has got four floors with a high ground floor above where the small chapel used for the storage of relics was located.
