The Church of St. Margareth

The Church of St. Margareth

Archaeological finds

It is situated above the bay bearing the same name on the western side of the Kalifront Peninsula. The period of its construction is still unknown and the same is true for the Church of St. Paul. It was mentioned in 1473 and 1476, when penitent hermits stayed there. It is a single-nave building with a semicircular back of the church. It was built from carved stone blocks. Its vault was made of brick masonry. In its proximity, in the direction towards the steep slope, the fragments of the room where the penitent hermit friars lived have been found. The church was managed by third order Franciscans who lived at the monastery and the Church of St. Francis (v. Franjo) in Komrčar. After the Franciscan monastery in Rab was closed, the monastery of St. Margaret in Kalifront also became neglected.
