Lopar

Another aspect of the scenery of Rab

Due to its remarkable natural diversity and the geological significance of the northeastern part of Lopar, the island was declared the significant landscape in 1969. This is the boundary between the continental and the Mediterranean vegetation belt.

The geological hiking trail surrounded by sandy soil vegetation

On the waterfront, the plants are clinging to the ground and it is shaped by sleet and the Bora wind blowing very hard in this area. On the sandy soil in the bays you will find particular sandy soil plants (Cro. local: gušć) growing and the sandy bays located on this Peninsula are unique in the world. One of the geological educational trails, which is 17 m long, passes through Lopar.

Sandy beaches and unique sand pyramids

The popular bays of Ciganka, Sturić and Dubac have been designated as the protected landscape due to their geomorphological and botanical diversity. Sandy beaches are surrounded by delicate heather shrubs and the black pine forest. This is where you will find interesting and unusual naturally formed shapes, such as sand pyramids.
