THE ARCHIPELAGO OF RAB CONSISTS OF 14 ISLANDS AND ISLETS
Seeking more secluded places, the archipelago of Rab consisting of 14 large and small islands and islets provides a memorable experience to boaters. However, not only to them, because one can reach the archipelago by tax boats, tourist boats, boats for rent of by a sea kayak, if you are brave enough.
LAGANJ VELI AND LAGANJ MALI ARE 5 NM AWAY FROM THE TOWN OF RAB
Swimming in a turquoise blue sea between Laganj Veli and Laganj Mali, the low islets in the open sea, is an absolute delight, particularly when a strong sea current flows between the islets, creating a natural jacuzzi in the sea. There is a sycamore in Veli Laganj, as well as sheep and rabbits. From the town walls one can enjoy a beautiful view of the islets.
ŠAILOVAC, SREDNJAK AND MAMAN – THE POPULAR TRIO OF SUPETARSKA DRAGA
The archipelago consisting of the islets of Šailovac, Srednjak and Maman at the Supetarska Draga Bay are regularly visited by local boaters. They are surrounded by sandy beaches, as well as a shallow, crystal-clear sea. The Islet of Maman is some 60 m away from the mainland, at a depth of 1m.
GOLI OTOK – THE NOTORIOUS EUROPEAN ALCATRAZ
During summer, there is a regular taxi boat service connecting the Island of Goli otok and Lopar. In addition to this, tourist boats transport visitors from the Port of Rab, organising full-day trips to Goli Otok and the island of St. Gregory (Cro. Sv. Grgur). In this area the sea is crystal-clear, since the islands are uninhabited. Goli otok was one of the most notorious prisons in Europe after World War II (it was opened in 1948 and closed in 1988), where the political opponents of the former Yugoslav regime were imprisoned and tortured. There are catering facilities on both Goli Otok and the Island of St. Gregory (Cro. Sv. Grgur).
