Pudarica Beach is the reddish gold pearl of Rab
FROM PADOVA LOCATED AT THE CENTRE TO THE SECLUDED PUDARICA
This bathing area is divided into 3 parts. The first one includes the three bays, such as the one of Padova with the Islet of Školjić (St. Gerge, Cro. Sv. Juraj) located opposite the Town of Rab, the coastline connecting the towns of Banjol and Barbat, and the Pudarica Beach.
SANDY PADOVA BEACHES AND THE ISLET OF ŠKOLJIĆ
The sandy beaches of Padova I, Padova II and Padova III are suitable for swimming. What makes this part of the coastline is the Islet of Školjić, also called St. George (Cro. Sv. Juraj) which separates the bays of Padova I and Padova II from the Town’s port, which can be reached by swimming through the sea passage some 10 m wide, joining the mainland with the long breakwater, connected to the Islet.
PIERS FOR BOAT MOORING, SUNBATHING AND PLUNGING INTO WATER
The stretch of the coastline of Rab connecting the towns of Banjol and Barbat is characterised by the sandy bays, with the rocky elongated and uninhabited Islet of Dolin situated opposite the coastline. It is for this very reason that the Barbat Canal, stretching from the Bay of Vašibaka to the town port has got a lake atmosphere. It is between 300 and 1000 m wide, and not more than 20 m deep. This is also the most populated part of the Island of Rab. Here you will find small sandy beaches located right beside the promenade that the tourists staying at the nearby accommodation facilities use. In addition to this, the area is characterised by wharfs, with as many long and narrow piers as there are beach houses. Many of them are built in front of the restaurants and other catering facilities, as well as the local shipyards. In addition to be used for the mooring of boats, they are gathering places of bathers and the perfects spots where the tourists staying in the houses nearby sunbathe. The only larger bay in this part of the island is the Bay of Barbat located in the proximity of the area of Kaštel and the low sandy bay of Banjol, which is close to the Islet of Artić.
PUDARICA – BEACH WITH A REDDISH-COLOURED COARSE-GRAINED SAND WHICH DOES NOT GET EVERYWHERE
The third bathing area, which used to be the main ferry port, includes Pudarica Beach - the central and the largest beach in this part of the island, surrounded by a number of small and large beaches well-known for their coarse-grained reddish-coloured sand. The beaches are located at the foot of steep hills and, what is typical of this area, they are surrounded by red soil. Here the landscape and the sea are mazing. You can access Pudarica by car, and then go on foot to look for one of the scattered around. Due to the sand (which is somewhat coarser and does not get everywhere), it is suitable for children and there are several catering facilities nearby.
