FRKANJ IS AN OASIS OF PEACE, A CRYSTAL-CLEAR SEA, A ROCKY SHORE AND THE BALMY FRAGRANCE OF PINE TREES
The Frkanj Peninsula is also called The Island of Love. It is situated opposite the Town of Rab, only 500 metres as the crow flies, separated from it by the indented Bay of St. Euphemia. Frkanj is an oasis of peace, a crystal-clear blue sea and stone beaches surrounded by the shade of a lush pine forest. The entire coast of the Peninsula is suitable for swimming. This place has been identified a long time ago as a perfect summer swimming and vacation spot. In other words, it represents a park zone and a recreational swimming area of the Island of Rab with a good geographic location and an excellent traffic connection to the mainland.
SMALL PEBBLE BEACHES, HIDDEN ALONG THE ROCKY SHORE, HAVE BECOME A PERFECT PLACE FOR THE COUPLES OF ALL AGES TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER
There are several small gravel beaches and white pebble beaches, as well as a few catering facilities with the accompanying services. The entire peninsula is covered by the coastal pine forest stretching all the way to the sea, so the bathers who don’t wish to get too much sun can always find some shade. While some prefer tanning in the sun, the others enjoy lying in a hammock in deep shade, listening to the chirping of the crickets – the loudest hot summer musicians.
THE KING SWAM NAKED ON THE ISLAND OF LOVE. WHY DON’T YOU DO THE SAME?
The story about naturism on the Peninsula is related to the most famous couple who visited the Island of Rab in the period between the two world wars. It is about Edward VIII, the King of the United Kingdom, and his lover, the American Duchess Wallis Simpson, who swam naked in the Bay of Kandarola in the summer of 1936. It contributed to the popularisation of naturism on our coastline. Besides, if you walk farther down the nudist beach (which is some 1.5 km long), you will find the most popular and the oldest European beach intended for same-sex couples, known among the local people as the Gay Promontory.
THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE PENINSULA FACING THE OPEN SEA IS THE MOST POPULAR AMONG THE BATHERS
The shore of this narrow Peninsula facing the open sea is intended for the bathers. The inner side of the Peninsula, situated at the Bay of St. Euphemia, overlooks the Town of Rab. Although it is not so popular among the bathers as the sunny side of the Peninsula, some bathers like it because it is less crowded and has a great view of the Town. Although the Bay of St. Euphemia cuts deep into the mainland, it is not very popular among the bathers due to its mudflat and the swampy shallow spots at the bottom of the Bay.
REACH THE FRKANJ PENINSULA BY BOAT FOR A COMPLETE EXPERIENCE
Boats sail regularly to Frkanj bringing tourists from the Port of Rab and the Škver beach for a swim, with the tradition of transporting the bathers dating back to the very beginnings of tourism on the Island and giving its visitors a true experience of the summer holidays. The view of the Town of Rab from the most beautiful side of the Island, the one facing the open sea adds a special charm to the atmosphere. You can get to Frkanj by car or bike, as well as by kayak.
