THE WEST COAST OF THE ISLAND IS VARIABLE AND IS SUITABLE FOR THE SWIMMING AND RECREATION ACTIVITIES OF PEOPLE OF ALL AGES

The west coast, stretching for 20km, with some 10 km of the coastline suitable for swimming, includes the northern part of the Kalifront Peninsula, the bays of Kampor and Supetar with the surrounding islets (Šailovac, Srednjak and Maman) as well as the Sorinj Peninsula. The coastline is low in some places and steep in other places, but the bays with sandy and pebble beaches are suitable for swimming and leisure activities.

THE SANDY BEACH OF MEL IS THE LARGEST BEACH IN KAMPOR, WITH THE ACCOMPANYING CATERING FACILITIES

The sandy loam beach of Mel located in the Bay of Kampor is particularly popular as the sea is deep only 1 metre at a distance of a few hundred metres from the shore. The northeastern side of the Kalifront Peninsula facing the Kampor Bay is steeper, with a number of coves with the sea shore covered with pebbles and sand, but most of the shore is not suitable for swimming as it is facing the northern side which is not sunny and is therefore less visited by tourists. However, there are those who prefer that kind of beach for this very reason.

GONAR AND THE ISLETS OF ŠAILOVAC, SREDNJAK AND MAMAN ATTRACT THE VISITORS OF THE BAY OF SUPETARSKA DRAGA THE MOST

In the Bay of Donja Supetarska draga, the coves of Dumići and Škar are divided by the Peninsula and are mostly used by the tourists staying at one of the local resorts. Several beaches are situated in the area of Gonar (the Gonar Peninsula), with the accompanying catering facilities. Wharfs are built in this area. There are a number of coves on the Gonar Peninsula, divided by small peninsulas and promontories along the sandy shore. Some of the most popular swimming spots are the Islets of Šailovac, Srednjak and Maman, which are regularly visited by boaters.

The interior of the Bay of Supetarska draga is not suitable for swimming due to its muddy shore with a peculiar vegetation, where migratory wetland birds rest during their migration. In the proximity of the marina, near the hamlet of Gulići, a small pebble beach is situated, with the only watermill on our coast located at the seafront.

THE SORINJ PENINSULA – RUGGED AND BARREN, SURROUNDED BY BEAUTIFUL PEBBLE BEACHES WITH FEW BATHERS

The northeastern side of the Sorinj Peninsula is rendered completely barren by the wind and is devoid of vegetation, with narrow rocky coves lined up in a row at the entrance to the Bay of Lopar at the end of which one can find beautiful shore with pebbles. Although they are not intended for the bathers who wish to stay longer, small groups of tourists visit this shore by boat. Waves formed by the Bora wind create seabanks from sand. The southwestern side of the Sorinj Peninsula is somewhat steeper and deeper, with its rocky shoreline, less coves, but the coves are suitable for swimming due to their pebble-covered and sandy bottom. This part of the Peninsula is abundant with vegetation, with forests descending down to the seashore in some places, and you can reach them by boat.
